2002ko udan Jan-ek bere Kreuzberg-eko gelan Gaur Bakarrik Sentitu Naiz konposatu zuen.'Berlin-era heldu berria nintzen. Aurretik ere egona nintzen, baina labur, ez aurretik denbora luzerako egongo nintzenaren jakitun. Ez nuen inor ezagutzen eta gaua aldean bakarrik sentitu, txirringa hartu eta Warschauer Strasse inguruko tabernetara joaten nintzen. Abestiak hori azaltzen du. Eta tabernetan gertatu oi dena, noski'.

In the summer of 2002 Jan wrote Gaur Bakarrik Sentitu Naiz (I Have Felt Lonely Today) in his Kreuzberg room. 'I was new to Berlin. I had been to the city before but for short periods of time, not knowing that I was to stay for long like then. I didn't know anyone and felt kind of lonely at nights, so I would take my bike and go to the bars around Warschauer Strasse. The song is about that. And about what happens at the bars, of course'.

Urte bat beranduago Berlin utziko zuen. 'Kasualitate hutsa izan zen. Lagun batekin Bartzelonara oporretan joan nintzen eta ez nintzen Berlinera itzuli, Bartzelonan gelditu nintzen, lau urte'.Bartzelonan bukatuko zuen bildumaren konposaketa eta ordenagailuarekin grabatzen hasi.

One year later he would leave Berlin. 'It just happened. Me and a friend went to Barcelona for a short holiday and I didn't go back, I stayed there for four years'. He would finish composing this collection and started recording it on his computer.

'Abesti hauen letrak landuak baino eskuz egindako letrak direla esango nuke. Eta nahiko bat batean abestuak, naturaltasunez. Esan nahi dudana zera da, melodia dela garrantzitsua, hitzen, esaldien musikotasuna. Ez dira pop edo rockaren ikuspegitik abesti klasikoak, ez dago errepikatzen den bertso bat, abestien estruktura osoa errepikatzen da, euskal bertsogintzaren ikuspegitik kanta klasikoak dira hala ere eta loopak, amaigabeak izan zitezkeen, esatekorik dagoen bitartean irauntzen dute. Hori azpimarratu eta aldi berean nolabaiteko organikotasun horri kontrastea emateko musika ordenagailuz egina dago, loopak erabiliaz'.

'I would say these songs' lyrics are more hand made rather than worked on, and rather sung in an unprepared way, fresh and natural. What I mean is that the melody is what's important, the musicality of the words and phrases. They're not classic rock or pop songs, there's no chorus line repeating, it's the whole structure of the song repeating. It's classic songs in the realm of traditional Basque instantaneous poem singing (Bertsolaritza), they are closer to that idea. The loops could be never ending, they last as long as there's something to be told. The music is made with the computer in order to highlight this idea but also to give this rather organic pieces some counterpart element, using electronic loops'.

'Ezerren Jabe kantan aurretik ere tratatutako gai bat jorratzen dut: pertsona baten noraeza, kasu honetan mutiko batena, ihesean dabilen mutiko batena. Nondik, zertaz eta zergatik entzuleak erbakitzen du, izan ere denok ibili bait gara ihesean momentu batean edo bestean. Nahiko abesti zinematografikoa da, ene ustez. --n ere antzeko tematika aurki daiteke.'

'In Ezerren Jabe (Master of Nothing) I deal with a theme I have dealt with before: the lost wandering of a person, a little boy this time, a little boy who's running away. Where and what from and why is for the listener to decide, as we all are running away from something in a way. It's a rather cinematographic song, I think. In - we can find a similar theme'.

'Gaur Alboan eta Z(e)(u)rekin-ek Erdi Aroko melodia dutela iruditzen zait. Kitar loopak ere melodikotasun klasiko hori azpimarratzen du, perkusioak hori apurtzera sartzen da Z(e)(u)rekin-en eta umore puntu bat Gaur Alboan-en. Azken hau Erdi Aroko koblakari batek azaldua irudikatzen dut.'

Gaur Alboan (Today Near) and Z(e)(u)rekin (What With, With You) have a medieval melody. The guitar loops underline that classic melody while computer beats break it in Z(e)(u)rekin and a bit of humour does the same in Gaur Alboan. I see this last one as told by a medieval story teller'.

'Ez Dut Zertan Ezer Esan Behar konposatzen azkena izan zen, bilduma entzun eta loopen kontua, elektrikotasuna kritikatu zidatenei idatzi nien. Plastikotasuna, artifizialtasun horren atzean melodia eta hitzaren arteko ustartze organikoa, lehen aipatutako euskal bertsoen estruktura errepikatzaile horren sinpletasunari kontrapuntua emateko zela ulertu ez zutenei.'

'Ez Dut Zertan Ezer Esan Behar (I Haven't Got To Say Anything At All) was the last I wrote. It's dedicated to those who, having listened to the songs, criticized the loops and the electronic use of the computer. To those who didn't see the organic merging of melody and lyrics behind the plastic and artificialness and didn't understand the opposition implied with the Basque traditional repetition of the structure of the verse'.

'Musika-n musikari egiten uztea aldarrikatzen dut. Musikak berak bidaiatu egiten du abestian, jario moduko bat da, eta berriro ere, errepikapena, loopena eta bertsoena. Kitarra apropos motelduta dago, jario hori gelditu nahiean. Kitarraren soinu des-eraikia eskultorikoa dela uste dut, abestiaren barruan espazioa sortzen du, edo hori da nik nahi dudana behintzat. The Stupid I Am, Righ Now... kantetan ere teknika hau erabiltzen dut, kitar motelduaren ohiartzunak sortutako kanta barruko espazioaren ideiarena.'

In Musika there's a let it be revindication of music itself. It is music that's traveling in the song, flowing, and once more, the repetition of the loops and metrics. The guitar is slowed down on purpose, wanting to stop that flow. I think the deconstructed sound of the guitar is very sculpture like, it creates space inside the song. Well, that's the idea. The Stupid I Am, Right Now...there is a use of this technique in other songs too, the idea of the creation of space by the echoes of the slowed down guitar's sound.

'Pozik-ek bilduma osoari kontrapuntua ematen diola dirudi, gaiaren aldetik nahiko baikorra dirudielako. Hala da, baina ironikoa da oso baita ere. Gaur Bakarrik Sentitu Naiz etaEuria Hasi Zuenean tankerako abestiak dira, musika aldetik densoagoak.'

'Pozik (Happy) seems very optimistic in its theme, so it gives the whole collection a different shade. This being true, it is also a ver ironic song. It's a closer relative to Gaur Bakarrik Sentitu Naiz and Euria Hasi Zuenean (When The Rain Started), it's a denser kind of music.'

Jatorrizko bilduman Joseba Sarrionandiaren poema musikatu bat agertzen zen, Munduko Lurraldeak. Ez da berargitalpen honetan agertuko.

In the original collection Munduko Lurraldeak (Territories of the World), a poem by Joseba Sarrionandia was featured. It won't be included in this re-edition.
